The town’s Rotary Club put on a splendid Community Fair involving over 75 organisations each promoting their group’s activities. In addition numerous performing groups entertained the crowds throughout the day with dancing, singing, acrobatics, rollerskating etc. The whole event was a great community occasion and thanks are due to the Rotary Club for providing the opportunity for the twon to come together to celebrate its 60th Anniversary.

Voting forms for the transfer of housing will be arriving this week and there is great concern over the revelation that the transfer includes the greens which are a feature of the town’s environment.

Town Council Leader Bob Fleming was alerted to this by Borough Councillor Sarah Iveson and they are calling for urgent clarification on the issue.

Why do they need the greens if not to build on them in the future? Previous transfer proposals included land within the curtilage of each house. Why has this changed?

A meeting is being called with the Minister Ian Wright to ensure land stays in public ownership. We must secure open spaces in our town and Newton News suggests residents hold their vote until this matter has been resolved.
