Elisabeth Yaneski and Matthew Bradley competed the National Masters Gala at Sheffield on the 27th and 28th October. Matthews’s success was documented in detail in last week’s edition of Newton News but it is worth mentioning again that he is now British National Masters Champion for the 200 metres freestyle.

Elisabeth took the bronze medal in the 800 metres freestyle. Not to be out done by her team-mate Elisabeth travelled to Glasgow the next week-end to compete in the Scottish Masters National Championships and took the Gold Medal in the 1500 meters freestyle

To have two National Champions in the squad is wonderful. From a club perspective they are both superb role models for the younger swimmers.

Leah Smith was the only swimmer representing Sedgefield 75 at the North Eastern Region Junior Championships held at the Sunderland Aquatic Centre on the 28th and 29th October. She competed in eight events over the weekend. Leah won silver in the 50 Breaststroke and bronze in the 100 Individual Medley. She was placed 8th in the 200 Breaststroke and 10th in the 100 Breaststroke.

Niall Coulthard and Leah Smith and Kyle Boyack competed in North Eastern Region Junior / Senior gala on the 4th and 5th November held at Sheffield Ponds Forge Pool. The best results came from Kyle who was placed 4th in both the 100 and 200 Breast Stroke open events. Although both Niall and Leah swam personal best times in most of their swims they did not make finals as the Juniors were 15 and the Open had swimmers of Olympic class. A massive learning curve for both the young swimmers.
