The Year 7 basketball team from Woodham Academy was recently representing the Sedgefield District in the Durham Youth Sport Games at Durham University’s Maiden Castle Sports Complex.  Having progressed through the qualification rounds unbeaten, the students were keen to compete against the best players in the county.
Having progressed under the tutelage of Woodham Academy Deputy Headteacher and current Durham Wildcats coach Danny Morgans, the players were some of the most technically proficient in the competition and were praised by Dave Elderkin and Lee Davey – both of whom have coached the Durham Wildcats BBL team. Going into the last game, the Woodham team needed to win the tournament; unfortunately they lost a very hard fought game and narrowly missed out on being county champions.
There are many players who have been encouraged to start to train with the Durham Wildcats national league squads with the intention of them playing in under 14 teams in the very near future.
