Newton Aycliffe bounced back in fine style from Saturday’s loss to Penrith with a resounding win over West Allotment Celtic. Some players were absent for Celtic, but this shouldn’t detract from Aycliffe’s performance which included some sharp passing moves. For the second game running Dennis Knight got an early goal, running onto a Zak Boagey through ball to slot home. They were 2-0 up after 10 minutes when John Campbell was somewhat fortunate when a clearance hit him, the ball ending up in the net. Ashley Coffey made it 3-0 on 25 minutes from short range after a looping Aaron Brown cross. Captain Paul Garthwaite headed home a Campbell cross just after the half hour mark, to make it 4-0. Campbell then broke through the defence for his second to make it 5-0 at the break. He completed his hat trick with an identical finish to make it 6-0 on the hour. Celtic, to their credit kept going and were rewarded with a Dale Pearson penalty for 6-1. Aycliffe completed the rout with further goals from Knight and Coffey to make the final score 8-1. The win takes Aycliffe back up to third in the Northerm League with 19pts. Saturday 24th sees the visit of Marske Utd to Moore Lane. The Seasiders had a comfortable 3-0 when the two sides last met just six weeks ago, however, Aycliffe’s form has improved considerably in the intervening period. Meanwhile manager Peter Dixon has strengthened his squad with the addition of Michael Riley signed from Newcastle Benfield.
