It’s been a long Christmas break for Newton Aycliffe FC. However, the lack of on-field action doesn’t mean nothing’s been happening at Moore Lane. The squad that turned out for training on New Year’s Eve under the supervision of new joint managers Deano Browne & Danny Mellanby had a very different look to the one we saw just a month ago. The managers have lost no time bringing in new players and some are very welcome returnees. Striker Jamie Owens has returned as captain while Dan Mitton has earned Man of the Match awards in both games he has played since his comeback.

Meanwhile another former player has come back home with Darren Craddock transferring from West Auckland and should provide a valuable addition to the squad. There are still two injury worries for the management. Ben Wood has been missing since the awful leg injury he suffered at West Allotment in November while keeper James Winter continues to recover from a hamstring strain. The Club has two home games this week with a Durham Challenge Cup tie against Brandon Utd on Tuesday 3 January followed by a league game against Chester le Street on Saturday 7th.
