Sugar Hill Primary School Leadership Team are doing all they can to inspire pupils to attend school regularly. Mrs Hindmarsh leads a whole school attendance initiative and is always thinking of new ways to get the message to parents and pupils of the importance of attending school. Last term the children were told that if their attendance for the Autumn Term was 96% or above they would be entered into a draw to win a bike. Three bikes were kindly donated to school as the much coveted prizes by Mr Benjamin Maughan of Epic Social Newcastle. Every day the children have seen the bikes displayed in school. Last Thursday a special draw took place in a whole school assembly and the lucky winners were announced. Roman was the lucky winner in Early Years, Brihanna won the Key Stage 1 prize and Moore could not contain his excitement when his name was pulled out after a very dramatic drum roll for the Key Stage 2 prize! Mrs Hindmarsh has already made plans for the prizes for Spring Term and the children are eagerly awaiting delivery so they know what they may win next. The school are looking into ways to reward children who could never achieve this target due to ongoing health needs and would love to hear from any local businesses who feel they can offer support to the school in the form of prizes. In addition to the termly prizes there are weekly draws where one pupil from each class chooses a smaller prize from Attendance Reward cabinets. Classes with the best attendance overall also earn a class treat. Attending school regularly and arriving on time are life skills that will auger well for pupils when they enter the world of work. Good habits start young. Staff at Sugar Hill would like to thank Mr Benjamin Maughan for donating the bikes. These prizes have had such a positive impact on pupil attendance. Mrs Hindmarsh commented, “I would also like to say a huge thanks to all the parents who support us in doing all they can to ensure their child regularly attends and arrives at school on time. The children are so excited when they know they have a chance of winning a prize like a bike!”
