A cup of coffee, a slice of cake and an informal chat could set you on a new career path this Saturday morning June 27th.
The team at Reach Out Care Fostering Services will be in their offices at Hope House, Burnhope, Newton Aycliffe, to welcome visitors who want to learn more about fostering.
“We thought it would be good to create an opportunity for people chat with some of our team to get a clear idea of what fostering really means,” said director Dot Butler.
“As an agency we have a reputation for really supporting our foster carers. We have Ofsted Outstanding rating and Investors in People Gold accreditation but what really matters to the people doing the job on the ground is … are they well supported and trained? We have many, many examples of where our team has gone the extra mile to support the foster carers and the children placed with them.
“We are particularly looking for people who think they have what it takes to care for children and young people who bring challenges with them. Most children in care have been abused or neglected and this can lead to difficult behaviours or a delay in how they develop.
“Recently I popped in to see two of our carers in Newton Aycliffe who have three children under nine in their long term care – the couple are now in their early 50s and have adult children of their own. It’s been great to see these three children grow and develop over the past few years and enjoy family life.  Yes, there are some medical and developmental challenges but the carers swell with pride when they talk about them!
“Call in for a coffee on Saturday – we’ll be there from 10am until 1 pm – and chat with us!”
