Layla Belle was in Newton News  a few weeks ago as she was in the running to win a pageant as Mini Miss Durham representing our County.  There was some adverse press coverage criticising her Mum for over sexualising a young girl. Layla won the pageant and is now “Mini Miss British Empire”.  She is going to India in September to represent the UK in “Junior Model International”. Layla Belle  is 7 years old and her ambition is to be famous, modelling and dancing. She also wants to make money so she can help people less fortunate. She is one of the first kids in her area to make friends with the Syrian refugee children, even learning some Arabic.

Layla Belle wants to travel the world and make a difference. Her Mum Penny was happy about the media coverage and thinks the hate mail received has been hilarious. She told Newtron News: “Layla Belle does wear make-up and fake tan but it is  wrong for people to judge her on her looks rather than what’s in her heart.” Layla’s title was based on catwalk modelling, talent and what she planned to do within her community. It’s not just all about looks. and is much deeper than that. She was very proud to represent Newton Aycliffe and County Durham. She need funding and has nearly hit her target but the link is https://www. gofundme.com/2wf8c4c if anyone wishes to help.
