Ronald and Joyce Davison of Sheppards Croft, School Aycliffe, celebrated 65 years of marriage on the 29th September 2016 and the Mayor Great Aycliffe Jed Hillary was among the many to call and congratulate the couple. They met in 1949 at Chester le Street at the Empire Ballroom during old time dancing and Joyce was Ronald’s one and only girlfriend and they were married in 1951 whilst Ronald was in the RAF They originally settled in Birtley just outside of Newcastle which was Ron’s birthplace. They moved around quite a bit as Ronald worked as Branch Manager for the Prudential Insurance Company, living in Hartlepool, Wolviston before he became Manager of the Bishop Auckland branch, settling in  School Aycliffe in 1982. He retired in 1987 and for the first few years the couple went on ‘round-the-worldcruise’ and many other cruises thereafter. In 1987/88 Ronald became President of the English Indoor Bowling Association and for that year were hardly at home travelling all over the country to competitions, functions and opening new bowls clubs. They have two children being Ian and Carole with five Grandchildren, Philip, Mark, Paul, Catherine and Mathew and four great grandchildren, Harrison 9, Ellie 6, Imogen 5 and  Jake aged 2. The family are planning to go to Scotland for a few days after the anniversary but it is difficult getting all the family together as they are all over the country and in Australia. Carole, her husband, Ian and his wife took Ronald and Joyce for a meal on their Anniversary before they travelled back to Cumbria where the four of them live and work. The couple were very happy to get a visit from the Mayor on their 60th Wedding Anniversary and were delighted to receive Mayor Jed Hillary 5 years later.
