2017 The Most Popular Year for Rehoming a Dog

2017 was the most popular year for giving a dog a home, according to Dogs Trust Darlington. Last year the Sadberge Rehoming Centre broke its own rehoming record, with an astonishing 1,214 canine residents finding their forever homes.

The highest number of canine residents rehomed rehomed in previous years was 1,159 so the team at Dogs Trust Darlington are delighted to have built on this success. The 1,214th dog to be rehomed from the centre was six-year-old crossbreed Nico, who had been a resident at the Centre for three months before being spotted by a lovely family.

Despite this fantastic milestone, there are still plenty of residents at Dogs Trust Darlington waiting on special owners to give them loving new homes. One resident, who has been at the Centre for sometime is seven-year-old German Shepherd cross Samson, who is a happy boy looking for a family that will give him all the time and patience he needs to adjust to a new family home.

Jake Flatman, Assistant Manager at Dogs Trust Darlington, said:

“2017 was a great year for lots of dogs at the Darlington Rehoming Centre, however we hope 2018 will bring even more joy for canine residents still waiting for their special someone. We are very fortunate to have so many dedicated supporters, including players of People’s Postcode Lottery, whose donations and funding continue to help staff provide dogs with the TLC they need whilst they await new owners.”

“This year our slogan “A dog is for life, not just for Christmas” celebrates its 40th anniversary, so we want to do everything possible to keep Dogs Trust at the forefront of peoples’ minds so that if they are thinking about getting a pet dog, they will consider adopting a rescue dog. It is important that any dog that comes into our care gets every opportunity to find a home, as they will make great companions for the right families.”

As an energetic chap, Samson would love to find an adult only home with owners who are willing to give him time to settle in and provide lots of exercise as he needs to be kept physically active. Samson is a clever boy who is fully housetrained and loves nothing more than cuddling up with his human companions.
